A Jacket for Any Season: P4P Adventure Jacket
Patterns for Pirates: Adventure Jacket
Pattern:
I was fortunate to test the Adventure Jacket and this is going to be a TNT for me. This jacket can truly work with any season depending on the fabric you use. For the spring months use a ripstop or lightweight twill with a light lining, in the fall opt for a denim or twill with a satin lining and in the winter try a flannel with a sherpa lining. There are so many great features:
Cropped or hip length
Rib knit of elastic casing for sleeves and hem
Optional large chest and side seam (for the hip length) pockets
Collar or hood
I chose to sew the cropped length with the collar and the patch pockets because I think they really make the jacket stand out. The instructions will tell you that interfacing the flaps and collar are optional, but I wish I had interfaced them. I would’ve preferred more structure in these areas, I thought the fabric was heavy enough but I was wrong.
Fabric:
I actually didn’t have any fabric selected when I applied to test, but I figured there was something in my stash that would work. I’m still sure that there was, but I went to a local shop after I was selected and saw this corduroy for just $5/yd. I had to have it. It did make a mess all over my sewing room, but I’m very pleased with how it turned out.
It would also be fun to colorblock this as there is a front and back yoke and upper and lower sleeve, not to mention the chest pockets. One last thought I had was to do a contrast thread for the optional topstitching.
